Ralf graduated from Munich University. Following a dissertation he moved on to large animal practice, then to the United States to further study small animal medicine and surgery and finally he saw his calling and began his residency in veterinary dermatology at the University of California/Davis. He is a Fellow of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Dermatologists. Together with his wife Sonya he was a director of the Animal Skin & Allergy Clinic for 8 years. In 1999 he took up a position as Assistant Professor in dermatology at Colorado State University.
