Andrew SparkesAndrew Sparkes graduated from the Royal Veterinary College (University of London) in 1983, and after a period of four years in general practice joined the staff of the University of Bristol as a resident in feline medicine (Feline Advisory Bureau Scholar). He then went on to a research appointment for the period from 1990 to 1993, which led to the successful completion of a PhD (awarded in 1993). In 1993, Andrew was appointed as a lecturer in Feline Medicine in the Department of Clinical Veterinary Science at the University of Bristol - a position funded by the Feline Advisory Bureau, and in 1999 he was promoted to senior lecturer in Feline Medicine. In 2000 he moved to the Animal Health Trust (where he is currently working) to take up a position as Head of the newly established Feline Unit there, with responsibilities for developing clinical referral work and clinical research. Andrew has published widely in the field of feline medicine, and has been an invited speaker to many national and international conferences. He is a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and a member of the European Society of Feline Medicine Executive Committee. He is a RCVS recognised specialist in feline medicine and is the current co-editor-in-chief and founding editor of the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery – an international journal published by Elsevier and launched in 1999. Andrew is also the current Chairman of the Feline Advisory Bureau.
