Module 1

Method of Eye Examination
Differential Diagnosis

In the First module, case studies will be presented so as to help learn how to do eye examinations. In addition, material will be presented on:
Embryology
Development Anomalies
Anatomy - what do I need to know as a practitioner?

March Module 2

Practical Pharmacology - what do I know on my drug shelf?
Cortisones
Antibiotics
Mydriatics
Miotics
Glaucoma
Emergencies
Orbital Disease
AprilModule 3

Ocular Surgery
The basics, including equipment, suture selection will be covered. Videos covering common surgeries such as entropion, eyelid tumour removal, cherry eye, eye removal, intrascleral prosthesis insertion, third eyelid flap, grid keratotomy, and conjunctival grafting will be included

Module 4

Vision Loss
How to deal with a case presented for vision loss. The diagnostic approach to cases of slow, and sudden vision loss cases will be presented

Module 5

The Discharging Eye
The approach to a watery eye and a mucky eye will be presented. The differential diagnosis and therapeutic approaches will be covered
Watery eye
Increased production of tears
Decreased drainage
Mucoid discharge
Purulent discharge

July

Module 6

The Blue Eye
The causes and management of a blue eye will be covered. The areas to be covered in this module will include corneal diseases, lens luxation and glaucoma

The Red Eye:
Part 1 How to approach the red eye… what is red eye?
How to differentiate between glaucoma and conjunctivitis!
Conjunctivitis will be covered in detail in this module
SeptemberModule 8

The Red Eye:
Part 2 The more serious causes of a red eye will be covered here.
Uveitis and hyphaema will be covered in detail in this module
OctoberModule 9

Abnormal Appearance
All the possible causes of an abnormally looking eye will be covered in this module. Prominent and sunken eyes, and distorted pupils etc. will be covered
NovemberModule 10

The painful eye
The closed eye
The eye that is sore to touch! Ouch!
Eye disease when the animal is sick

Technical requirements for online study

Technical requirements for online study WebCT is a software program developed in Canada which provides a platform and a set of web course teaching tools for online learning. As an introduction to the online learning environment The Post Graduate Foundation in Veterinary Science is using this platform to give you access to your course online. This medium will allow you to access your course and participate in online discussions with other participants and your tutor via a computer, a modem and a web browser, such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.
