Prof. Graeme Allan is a graduate of the University of Sydney. Initially he was in small animal practice for several years, followed by a residency in radiology at the Cornell University Veterinary College, NY.
After
successful completion of the ACVR Board examinations, Graeme commenced practice
in Sydney as a specialist Veterinary Radiologist with a concurrent appointment
as a Consultant Veterinary Radiologist at the University Veterinary Centre (Sydney).
The practice changed in 1998 with the addition of Robert Nicoll. Since then
Graeme has practiced with Robert as Veterinary Imaging Associates, which is
a referral practice that specialises in radiographic and ultrasonographic imaging.
Graeme is also an Adjunct Professor of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney and shares with Robert the instructional responsibilities for the 3rd and 4th year veterinary students at the University of Sydney Veterinary School.
Prof. Allan is a skilled teacher who has accumulated an enormous amount of resource material and has the experience to tutor at the highest level on all aspects of radiology and ultrasound. He created the Radiology (Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging) Distance Education Program that has been used by the Post Graduate Foundation for the past twelve years.
Robert Nicoll joined the program in 1998, and in 2001 Graeme and Robert undertook a substantial review of all of the instructional material and converted it to an 'online' format to enable electronic transmission of learning material.
Dr Robert
Nicoll undertook research in ultrasonographic evaluation of tendon and ligament
injuries of the horse as part of his BSc(Vet) at the
University
of Sydney in 1989.
Following his graduation from Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney (1990), Robert worked in mixed practice in Bathurst, NSW for several years before taking a position as Resident in Radiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA from 1994-1997.
Upon returning to Australia in 1997, Robert became a consultant in clinical diagnostic imaging at the University Veterinary Centre, Sydney, as well as co-founding Veterinary Imaging Associates with Graeme Allan.
Since 1998, Robert has been an associate tutor with Graeme in the Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging Distance Education course.
Dr Nicoll is experienced in undergraduate and post-graduate teaching both in Australia and the USA and is involved in research and publications in radiology, ultrasound, MRI and CT.
More recently, Robert has developed a particular interest in improving standards of diagnostic imaging in veterinary practice and the provision of digital image interpretation services for veterinary practices. The growing utility of the internet has resulted in the development of both diagnostic services and educational material for veterinarians by Robert and Graeme via the PGF Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging Distance Education Program, the PGF Radiographic Case of the Month, and the online-vets.com websites.
